Youngest cast member wills Wookie to life in rip-roaring performance

Short Wars is a short film that celebrates short actors with big talent. They don't come much shorter -- or more talented -- than Roslyn, who portrayed Chewbacca the Wookie.

Not quite two years old when our production took place, Roslyn wasn't quite sure what to make of the proceedings. It took some skillful parental coaxing to get her into the heavy, itchy Wookie costume.

Once on stage, Rosyln was transformed from a toddler into a large furry creature capable of shooting stormtroopers and flying spaceships.

We filmed all of Roslyn's scenes in one block and were able to complete most of Chewie's appearances on stage before Rosyln grew tired and stepped off-stage.

Roslyn was on hand for some famous scenes, however, including the cantina-bar meeting between Han, Chewie and Luke and Ben. She also piloted our heroes out of Mos Eisley aboard the Millennium Falcon as they started their journey to Alderaan. Roslyn was also on-hand for the film's dramatic end sequence -- the award ceremony.

As director Wade remembers, "She was reluctant to follow directions in that last scene until she saw that Han and Luke were being awarded with medals by Princess Leia. Then she stepped forward, miraculously hit her mark and, in our own nod to Chewie, received a medal of her own. It was one of those magical moments in film. We could probably never create that scene again in a million years."
