Short Wars: A Star Wars fan film starring kids! Four hours to re-create the most famous sci-fi epic of all time
Short Wars: A New Cast About the Movie

An adventure unlike anything on Earth ...

C-3PO and R2-D2 in Short Wars
It began with an idea. It was the "summer of Star Wars" -- 2005. A group of young cousins were going to be spending the summer together, and with "Revenge of the Sith" due in theaters in May, they all had Star Wars on the mind. So, we thought, why not let them re-create the original movie?

From that idea, Short Wars was born. We widdled George Lucas's screenplay down from a full-length feature film into something we could hopefully re-capture on film within a day. Four hours, to be more precise. We tried to capture the essence of the film by retracing its most pivotal moments.

The project continued to grow in size. At first, we thought we might just have lightsabers and let the kids act out their favorite duel scenes. Then, we thought, 'Why not have costumes?' What we couldn't buy online, we made during one entire day of non-stop sewing.

It became apparent that we were creating more than a play day -- we were staging a play. That's when we decided to rent a stage. The local elementary school -- the school of our youth -- fit the bill perfectly. We had it for a whole afternoon.

And so, in late May 2005 during the summer of "Star Wars," we did our best to re-create the original film on the small stage. Our project is a sort of hybrid. It's not really a film and it's not really a play. When asked how to describe it, the director has most often replied, "It's a poorly staged play that has been filmed for posterity."
