A talented young actress portrays a princess in distress
Avery relished the chance to play Princess Leia in our short film. A great
admirer of all the Disney princesses, she could not resist the opportunity
to slip into the white gown of science fiction's most famous princess.
Playing Princess Leia was not easy. As one of the main characters, Leia
was in most of our scenes. Avery was really put to the paces, whether
running from stormtroopers, falling into a garbage chute or re-creating
her famous holographic message time and time again. Avery was a real soldier,
however, and did what the script demanded of her.
Avery had to endure four hours under that wig, which was so tight we couldn't
even get her ponytail tucked in underneath. As one of the older members
of our cast, Avery assisted her younger co-stars in learning the blocking
and hitting their marks.
Thanks to her mastery of the craft, Avery brought humor and life to our
lead character. Her favorite part of the film? When Luke Skywalker, played
by Miles, screams "Noooooooooo" as Vader cuts down Obi-Wan Kenobi
during their climactic lightsaber duel inside the Death Star.
